The service analyses the sound of the track and separates it into four stems: vocals, drums, bass and everything else. Everything runs right in your browser: the track is cut into overlapping 7.8-second segments, each segment is split into stems, and the results are smoothly stitched back together.

On the first split your browser downloads the separation engine - about 170 MB. It is stored in the browser cache, so on later runs no download is needed and splitting starts right away.

• With GPU acceleration (WebGPU in recent Chrome and Edge on desktop) it is usually faster than the length of the track.
• On the CPU it takes one to several minutes per minute of audio, depending on your computer.
• On a phone there may not be enough memory for a long track - a computer is more reliable.

The quality is close to paid services. But no separation is perfect: faint traces of other instruments can remain in a stem, reverb and effects sometimes land in the wrong stem, and “Other” gets everything that is not vocals, drums or bass. For remixes, karaoke, samples and studying an arrangement it is usually more than enough.

It is drums, bass and other instruments summed together - a ready-made instrumental of the track. You can download it as a separate file or in the zip together with the stems.

Splitting does not change copyright: stems from someone else’s song still belong to its rights holders. To publish a remix, samples or an instrumental of someone else’s track you need permission. Your own tracks, study, arrangement analysis and personal use are fine.
